U.S. secretary of state Antony Blinken and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan discussed the new developments in Sudan and reacted to the military’s takeover there.

They both condemned the military coup in Sudan as a destabilizing action in the region. Antony Blinken emphasised the need for the restoration of Sudan’s civilian-led transitional government and democracy.

“I spoke today with the Saudi Foreign minister about responding to the military coup in Sudan as well as other important bilateral issues, including human rights,” Antony Blinked tweeted.

The Saudi foreign ministry also stated that the Foreign ministers reviewed bilateral relations during a telephone conversation and ways to strengthen them, and discussed the developments in the region.

Protesters in Sudan are still on the streets blocking roads around the country following the military takeover, with the Sudanese military arresting dozens of the protestors.
