Anxiety prevails in the Turkish media after the announcement of the US government that it approves the supply of MMSC frigates to Greece and the modernization of MEKO frigates.

This move by the US has caused a great deal of confusion worldwide in numerous media outlets, since while it is in fact the US response to the Greek frigate competition that has already ended, the US has now announced it, creating the impression that it is either a supply of extra frigates or that the deal cancels the French Belharra frigates that Greece recently acquired.

The Turks seem to have misunderstood the announcement and state that this is a purchase of even more ships for the Hellenic Navy as they are speaking about armaments of 10 billion with the sole purpose of competing with Turkey despite the fact that “Greece is heavily indebted”, as it is reported by the Turkish Milliyet newspaper.

He also states that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will soon sign an agreement with the United States on the purchase and modernization of ships.

The Turkish daily also highlighted the US press release, saying the sale would boost the security of a NATO ally (Greece) that supports US foreign policy, a report that clearly bothers Turkey as the United States has not only canceled its F-35s but do not even discuss covering the prepaid amount with F-16s.
