In a new development showing that Haftar still has a strong presence in Libya, LNA forces closed the border with Algeria in southern Libya, designating the area as a military zone, while Haftar backed TV channels published photos of the forces and vehicles. of Haftar at the border.
The military operation was launched on Thursday to “identify Islamist terrorists,” the Libyan National Army said in a statement.
Haftar’s military presence on the border with Algeria is not new. In 2018, he warned on a television show that he would go to war with Algeria if he continued to “violate the sovereignty of Libyan territory”, arguing that “whenever Algerians find Libya weak, they enter its territory”.
After Haftar’s move, Libya’s presidential council banned any military movement across the country without its approval.
