Egypt has reached an agreement with France to buy 30 additional Rafale fighter jets worth 3.9 billion euros.
The agreement includes a 200 million euro contract for the purchase of equipment and additional ammunition packages for the aircraft.
“Indeed, very advanced discussions have taken place with Egypt and announcements could be made very soon,” a French government source told Reuters in response to The Associated Press’ report on Monday, although he declined to give further details.
France has agreed to sell 30 additional Rafale fighters to Egypt that are likely to be ratified even in the coming days.
President Emmanuel Macron said in December that he would not associate arms sales with Egypt’s human rights issues because he does not want to weaken Cairo’s ability to tackle terrorism in the region.
Information says that the agreement between France and Egypt also covers contracts from MBDA and Safran Electronics & Defense (SAF). PA) at a cost of around EUR 200 million in addition.
