According to an announcement by the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, on Saturday, October 9, 2021, “the Greek frigate KANARIS sailed in the port of Alexandria, Egypt, after being replaced by the Greek frigate KOUNDOURIOTIS in the operation UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon).
On Sunday, October 10, 2021, and after its departure, the Greek frigate KANARIS performed a joint training PASSEX (Passing Exercise) with the Egyptian frigate ALEXANDRIA in the wider sea area of the port of Alexandria.
During PASSEX, objects of communication, synthesis and exchange of recognized area image, advanced manoeuvring and Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO) were performed.
The above activity is part of the wider framework of international actions and contributed, on the one hand, to maintain the operational capacity of the participating units at a high level and on the other hand to the promotion of military cooperation between Greece and Egypt which is constantly being upgraded, proving in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
During the stay of the KANARIS frigate in Alexandria, a ceremonial visit took place by its Commander, the Commander of the 2nd Frigate Squadron and the Greek Cairo Defense Corps to the Commander of the Alexandria Naval Base.” the announcement concluded.
