Gaza seems to be preparing for new wars with Israel, as Hamas is digging tunnels following the recent tensions in Jerusalem.
According to international media, about a year after the short conflict between Israel and the Gaza Strip, during which Palestinians fired thousands of rockets at Israeli cities, the IDF at that time had responded by launching heavy bombardments on Gaza but now Hamas and Israel are preparing again for a new round of tensions.
The Israeli authorities state that they do not expect an escalation of tensions that could lead to fighting in the near future, but that the Israeli armed forces are always ready.
Israel says Hamas has not regained its strength since last year’s war and that Palestinians working in Israel are pushing for the organization to avoid another war.
However, Gaza media reports state that Hamas will increase the level of readiness in the coming days and that it is waiting “with its finger on the trigger”.
Turkey has made new provocative statements, with Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu this time claiming that the natural gas deposits in the eastern Mediterranean belong to Turkey.
The Turkish Minister also spoke about the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque and the opening of Varosha in Cyprus threatening Greece and Cyprus again with more aggressive actions.
“Because they said “you can not do it”, we reopened the closed Varosha in Cyprus, with the will of our president,” Suleyman Soylu said in a speech.
“Do you know what we did when we were busy with the pandemic?” We turned the Hagia Sophia into a mosque, something they held over our heads for years like Damocles Swords, threatening us with disturbing the peace and vowing not to let us convert it. “I say this so that they understand and are ready for what we are gonna do,” he added.
Furthermore, speaking about the Eastern Mediterranean, he said:
“Let the USA deal with us, as well as Europe. We took such a step without being afraid of anyone in the world. “We have shown our strength and said if there is gas in the Eastern Mediterranean, then we are the owners.”
The statements of the Turkish Minister of Interior, of course, have nothing to do with reality and pose a threat to Greece and Cyprus, as the only way for Turkey to claim the whole Eastern Mediterranean is to wage war against Greece and the Republic of Cyprus.
Fighting continues in Ukraine with Russia attacking mainly in the eastern regions.
According to the Ukrainian Armed forces, “the Russian army has been defeated in various areas. In particular, Russian forces attacked the city of Izium, but the Russian attack failed and the Russian forces with significant losses retreated to their previous positions.
In the Donetsk region, near the city of Marinka, after a counterattack by Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russian troops suffered another defeat that forced them to retreat there with heavy losses. Ukrainian forces regained control of the settlement after the retreat of the Russians” the Ukrainian armed forces announced.
Fighting continues in the Oleksandrivka region, where, according to the Ukrainians, Russian forces are losing to the Ukrainian army and bombing settlements.
In the last few days, we have seen a series of diplomatic moves and statements with press reports from various media outlets stating that Russia is preparing to open a consulate in the occupied territories of Cyprus.
Greek media have even stated that the Russians are preparing to recognize the occupied territories as a sovereign state.
The Russian embassy in Nicosia rejected these rumours, but in the last three months, we have heard Russian diplomats doubting whether Ersin Tatar is President or not, making miserable statements that equate the perpetrator and the victim and attempts to block the EastMed pipeline.
We have also seen Cyprus in an official video of the British Ministry of Defense being presented as bisected and the Russian MFA, Sergey Lavrov, referring to non-existent states.
Many coincidences have been gathered related to allies of Cyprus, and other states and that makes these rumours sound reasonable even if Russia rejected them.
“On the morning of April 18, high-precision air-launched missiles of the Russian Aerospace Forces in the area of Lviv struck at the 124th Joint Logistics Support Center of the Command of the Logistics Forces of the Ukrainian Troops.
The logistics center and the large consignments of foreign weapons that arrived in Ukraine over the past 6 days from the United States and European countries were destroyed.
In addition, a large ammunition depot was destroyed near the village of Vasylkiv, Kyiv region.
During the day, high-precision air-launched missiles of the Russian Aerospace Forces destroyed 16 military facilities of Ukraine.
Among them: two control points, two strongholds of units of Ukrainian troops, as well as places of concentration of enemy personnel and military equipment in the areas of the settlements of Popasna, Barvenkovo and Krasny Liman.
Operational-tactical aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces struck at 84 military facilities of Ukraine,” the Russian ministry stated.
A military operation against the Kurdish rebels in Iraq was announced by Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, saying that the fighting was in full swing.
PKK-linked targets in northern Iraq are being hit by Turkish fighter jets, artillery and special forces that have entered the area.
Turkey’s Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said in a video posted on the ministry website early Monday that Turkish fighter jets and artillery units targeted PKK shelters, warehouses, caves and tunnel systems, as well as weapons storage and distribution centers, according to the video.
Subsequently, Turkish troops allegedly violated the border with Iraq and entered the area by helicopters, under the cover of armed Turkish UAVs.
For their part, Kurdish forces report that two Turkish helicopters were hit in the area and that there are about 28 dead Turkish soldiers, but this can not be confirmed.
This move of the Turks may be related to the recent artillery fire against Ayn Issa by Turkish forces in Syria.
Illegal trafficking of migrants was observed by the Greek police on the river Evros (on the borders with Turkey) and also in the context of the trafficking there was a murder case, possibly by the Turkish traffickers.
The Greek police press release stated:
“On Saturday, April 16, 2022, at 20:50 in the area of Evros in Soufli, police officers of the Border Guard Department located a group of people boarding a plastic boat from the opposite shore for the purpose of illegal entry into the country.
In order to prevent this passage, police officers proceeded to use flashlights and voice warnings, but at that time the opposite side gunfire was heard, the direction of which could not be detected due to darkness.
To ensure their physical integrity, the Greek police officers hurried to cover themselves, firing warning shots in the air, as the shots from the opposite side continued in bursts at the same rate in an unknown direction.
When the boat arrived on the Greek shore, five of the migrants disembarked from it, while the rest returned. The four of them managed to reach the shore swimming while a woman remained floating in the water and when the police pulled her out, they found out she was dead.
The body was found to have a gunshot wound to the back right chest and was transported for an autopsy-necropsy, where from the medical examiner’s first assessment the cause of death was a shot from a very close distance using a small-calibre weapon.
The survivors, including a minor, were examined and it turned out that they had paid 2,000 euros each to traffickers in Constantinople for their transportation to Athens.
Preliminary investigation is carried out by the Alexandroupolis Security Sub-Directorate”.
Afghanistan threatened Pakistan with war following a rocket attack by Islamabad forces.
“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan condemns in the strongest possible terms the bombardment and attack that has taken place from the Pakistan side on the soil of Afghanistan,” said a Taliban government’s spokesman.
“This is a cruelty and it is paving the way for enmity between Afghanistan and Pakistan … We are using all options to prevent repetitions (of such attacks) and calling for our sovereignty to be respected.
The Pakistani side should know that if a war starts it will not be in the interest of any side. It will cause instability in the region,” he said.
Turkish-backed forces in Syria are shelling villages near Ain Issa and Tal Tamr with heavy artillery, according to local media.
In particular, it is reported that many villages near Ain Issa and Tal Tamr and the M4 motorway were bombarded with artillery from regions that are under Turkish control.
A Turkish drone was also observed flying over the targeted areas.
As Rojava Information Center reports: “Turkish-backed SNA forces have shelled NES on the Tel Tamir & Ayn Issa fronts today. Near Ayn Issa, the villages of Bir Issa, Debs, Hoshan, Fatsa, Mushairfa, Khalidiya, Sidon, the Ain Issa camp, the Saqr Restaurant & the M4 road were shelled from Turkish-occupied territory.”
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said on Friday that there had been “extensive bombardment by Turkish forces” in those regions.
