New Russian military exercises near Ukraine

0

Russia had amassed tens of thousands of troops on Ukraine’s border, raising fears of Ukraine for a possible invasion of the Russian army, with some de-escalation moves having lowered the tones between the two sides.

That fear, however, seems to be reinforced by the fact that Russian military exercises near Ukraine have been resumed on Tuesday, amid talks to find a political solution.

New Russian military exercises near Ukraine

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the talks with the USA on Tuesday as “open, comprehensive and immediate”, but added: “At this point, we see no hope of finding a real solution.”

The Russian government has asked the US to not allow Ukraine and Georgia to enter NATO, despite the applications that these two countries want to send to the alliance.

The United States has categorically rejected Moscow’s demands on several occasions, openly provoking a Kremlin backlash.

At a news conference on Monday, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, who heads the US delegation, said NATO “would not allow anyone to abruptly close NATO’s open-door policy, which has always been vital to cooperation in the alliance “.

“Aggressive rhetoric has remained in the words, whether it will proceed in action is doubtful because they have problems in their army, with spare parts and other open problems that they have to solve. “Greece, however, is ready to face any challenge, starting with the refugee problem that worries us and the whole of Europe,” said Dora Bakoyannis.

“We have built alliances and prepared our (military) equipment, which is bothering Turkey. “We will not take a step back from international law,” Dora Bakoyiannis said describing that Greece is ready for a military confrontation with Turkey if it’s necessary.

Commenting on Ankara’s recent video showing Turkish soldiers swimming two kilometres and the comments of Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar that those swimmers can capture Greek Islands, she said that anyone who has a swimming pool can do it, calling the video “ridiculous“.

She also said that the Turkish minister made this move for internal consumption in order to raise the percentages of the upcoming elections.

“As long as the Turks have an entire ‘Aegean army’ opposite the Greek islands, we are not going to take a step back,” she said.

Ms Bakoyannis also said that it was a fantasy to think that a possible defeat of Erdogan in the elections would benefit Greece as the Turkish opposition is very tough in its positions on national issues and that Greece is preparing for any bad scenario but at the same time “we are open to dialogue to normalize relations”.

North Korea launch a Mach 10 MaRV Hypersonic missile

Pyongyang (North Korea) has been hard at work since the start of the year on hypersonic missiles as on January 11th, a hypersonic (probably MaRV) missile with a top speed of Mach 10 was launched in a second missile test since last week.

Analysts estimate that a North Korean Mach 10 MaRV hypersonic ballistic missile carrying a nuclear warhead would reach its target in less than a minute.

As of 7:27 a.m. on Thursday, the General Staff of South Korean Armed Forces reported that North Korea had launched a projectile into the eastern sea near Jagang province that was suspected to be a ballistic missile.

A speed of Mach 10 was observed in addition to a flying distance of more than 700 kilometres.

Based on the analysis that we mention a “preemptive strike” was also backed by South Korean Politician Yoon Seok-Yeol that currently runs his campaign for the presidency of the Republic of Korea.

North Korea launched a ballistic missile carrying a manoeuvrable re-entry vehicle (MARV) on September 5 from the Jagang region after the successful test launch of the hypersonic glide carrier (HGV) type “Hwasong-8” in September last year that had a speed of Mach 6.

According to the United Nations, even at that point, North Korea claimed to have fired a “hypersonic missile” towards a target 700 kilometres away from the Korean peninsula.

China and Russia both maintain a hypersonic missiles arsenal that can reach speeds of up to Mach 10 and South Korea & Japan claim that such missiles are detectable by their military forces.

However, most analysts and scientists believe that missiles launched against targets at such speeds cannot be currently easily intercepted.

Provocative statements for Greece by Turkish Minister of Defense Akar

0

The Turkish Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar made provocative statements against Greece.

“We have some problems with Greece in the Aegean, the Mediterranean and Cyprus. These problems become deeper due to the populist and uncompromising behaviour of some Greek politicians, which is not in line with international law and is out of reality.

Despite our well-intentioned calls for dialogue, Greece“It is trying to give the image of a victim country, distorting all kinds of data, disguised in lambskin to cover up its illegal and aggressive actions […],” Turkish Minister of Defense Akar said.

“The fact that Greece, which was founded in 1832 with an area of 47,517 square kilometres at the time, has almost tripled in size in 7 stages, is a clear indication of its expansion.

All these are actions that do not contribute to regional stability and security, on the contrary, they escalate tensions and are against the spirit of neighbourhood and alliance.

In addition, Greece, with the encouragement and challenge of some countries, has fallen in love with armaments, which is provocative. “Some Greek academics, diplomats and the military are openly saying that this approach is a futile endeavour.” said the Turkish Minister of Defense

The Turkish Minister of Defense continued his insults, saying that the Greek authorities were shooting at immigrants.

“Incredible things are happening. What is happening in the middle of the sea they are shooting immigrants, they are piercing the boats with spears. It is very difficult to understand what kind of culture this is… What kind of humanity is this? This is really murderous. […] Greece’s desire is to extend its territorial waters to 12 miles in favour of the international environment. Make no mistake. They should not make a mistake, saying “now is the time for the 12 miles”.

Others made this miscalculation, but we organized Operation Euphrates Shield. Let them not try us, let them not go on adventures. You went to 6 miles, sit where you are. “May both parties take advantage of the wealth that exists and live peacefully,” Akar said openly threatening Greece with invasion.

The international coalition against ISIS describe Iran-backed forces as a “Threat”

The international coalition against ISIS has described attacks by Iranian-backed Shiite armed groups on positions where they have their headquarters in Iraq and Syria as “a threat” to their ability to carry out their main counter-terrorism objectives.

Several rockets were fired at coalition troops near Al-Khadra village, a Syrian Defense Forces camp in northeastern Syria where a small number of coalition instructors were also stationed, according to a statement released by the coalition this morning.

The international coalition against ISIS statement clarifies that coalition forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reacted quickly “on the basis of credible intelligence” and that six artillery shells were fired at the attack’s starting point outside the Mayadeen area in Syria.

However, a number of rounds landed inside the coalition base and inflicted significant damage.

According to the statement, “Iran-backed hostile forces fired missiles at the international coalition against ISIS from within civilian infrastructure, with no regard for the protection of civilians.”

It was revealed hours before the strike that “coalition troops detected three indirect missile launch locations that were categorized as an imminent threat” This was confirmed by local sources.

A number of attacks were carried out by coalition soldiers in self-defense to counter perceived threats. “-

John Brennan, commander of the international coalition’s joint task force, also spoke about the incident and said: “these erroneous and indiscriminate indirect fire attacks pose a significant threat to innocent civilians.”

In addition, he stated that “the coalition reserves the right to defend itself and its allied forces against any threat,” and that “we will continue to do everything in our power to protect those forces.”

“These organizations are attempting to deflect our attention away from our coalition’s shared goal of advising, helping, and strengthening partner troops in order to achieve the permanent defeat of ISIS,” Brennan said.

Japan and Australia sign Defense cooperation to counter China

0

A defense cooperation agreement was signed by the Japanese prime minister, Fumio Kishida, and the Australian prime minister, Scott Morrison, on Thursday afternoon.

The agreement defines the legal status of the Japanese and Australian forces during their visits to the other countries ahead of the telephone discussions setting the ground for conducting joint exercises.

The defense cooperation agreement with Australia is analogous to the United States military status of troops agreement in Japan, which is governed by the United States-Japan security treaty.

The goal is to increase defense cooperation while taking into consideration China’s hegemonic trends in the Indo-Pacific area.

This will be the first instance in which an agreement has been reached between Japan and Australia, which was regarded as a “semi-ally for Japan”

Following this military agreement, the Japanese side hopes to use it as a model for strengthening collaboration with allies.
