The US government has informally asked Congress to allow the sale of AMRAAM and Sidewinder missiles, radar and related equipment to Turkey, in order to significantly increase the capabilities of the Turkish F-16 fleet.

According to Wall Street Journal U.S. officials familiar with the matter have said that the Biden administration could use the proposal to assess Congress’ reaction to a different deal before possibly selling more F-16s from the United States to Turkey which Congress currently rejects.
