Japanese government Secretary-General Hirokazu Matsuno warned on January 5 that the sudden North Korean launch of a ballistic missile presented a threat to global security, including the security of the country’s own people and infrastructure.

At a press conference, the Secretary-General of the Japanese Cabinet of Ministers stated that “this affects the security and peace of our country and the entire region, and it is also a big problem for the entire world community.”

Kishi indicated that the Ministry of National Defense is still reviewing information gathered following the ballistic missile launch.

Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida described the potential of a North Korean ballistic missile launch as “unpleasant.”

“On the morning of January 5, the world learned that North Korea had launched a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan, which had not yet been identified,” he said
