BrahMos: Philippines Navy arms itself with deadly Indian missiles

In a letter that was recently revealed to the public, secretary of national defence of the Philippines Delfin Lorenzana informed, Indian Colonel Rajendra Negi who is, an Authorized Representative of Brahmos Aerospace Private LTD. that, his country accepted the possible sale of Brahmos Missiles for the Philippines Navy.

More specifically the Philippines Minister of Defense Delfin Lorenzana states in the letter of acceptance:

“This is to inform you that the proposal of BRAHMOS AEROSPACE PRIVATE LTD. for the Shore-Based Anti-Ship Missile System Acquisition Project for the Philippine Navy, with a corresponding price proposal in the amount of USD 374,962.800.00, is hereby accepted. 

You are hereby directed to provide, within ten calendar days from receipt of this notice, the performance security in the form and amount stipulated in the Terms of Reference. Failure to provide the said performance security shall be sufficient cause for the award to be cancelled.

Please be guided accordingly.” concludes Delfin Lorenzana.

The sale to the Philippines Navy is the first export of Brahmos missiles from India to another nation and constitute a huge success for the Indian Defense Industry.

The missile is based on the P-800 Onyx (or, more precisely, on its export variant, the Yakhont). In terms of speed, the BrahMos rocket can reach speeds corresponding to the Max numbers between 2.5 and 2.8 Mach.

The missile can be launched from submarines, ships, and coastal sites, as well as from planes (for example, the Su-30MKI), according to the manufacturer.
