“I express the satisfaction of Greece for the support provided by Saudi Arabia to Greece within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation regarding the unacceptable and unsupported efforts of the Turkish government to distort the truth about the Muslim minority in Thrace and Cyprus,” he said. Nikos Dendias.

“We also discussed the regional challenges. Both Greece and Saudi Arabia are committed to defending International Maritime Law and the freedom of navigation.

At the same time, both countries are in favor of promoting peace and stability in countries in the region, such as Iraq, Libya, and Syria. And of course, we support the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of third countries.

I also had the opportunity to provide a detailed briefing on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean. I underlined the escalation of the Turkish aggressive rhetoric against our country, which in fact has reached dimensions that we had not seen for years.

I stressed that the Turkish government has engaged in a constant distortion of the truth and of every concept of international law, including the law of the sea. This position is an epitome of absurdity, Greece is threatened with war if it exercises the inalienable right of extension of territorial waters as explicitly provided by international law.

Turkey has opposed our islands with the largest amphibious force and the largest amphibious fleet in the Mediterranean, and at the same time demands that we have to demilitarize our islands, despite our recognized right of self-defense described in the United Nations Charter.

The Turkish government is doing all this verbally in favor of international law. I have to make a very simple proposal to the Turkish government: to prove its faith in international law in practice, that is, to start implementing it. And a simple and quick implementation would be the immediate revocation of the casus belli and the immediate recognition of the non-existence of the Turkish-Libyan “memorandum”, said Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias.
