A U.S. diplomatic mission arrived in the Solomon Islands on Friday to try to prevent Chinese moves threatening Australia and AUKUS.

An agreement between China and the Solomon Islands lays the groundwork for a military alliance between the island nation and China.

Western countries immediately expressed strong concern about a future concentration of Chinese naval forces in the region.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of United States for East Asia and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink and Indo-Pacific National Security Council Coordinator Curt Campbell lead the team.

The US team is expected to offer other ways for the cancellation of the entire military agreement with China or at least several parts of it.
