The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced, on Friday, the killing of one of its soldiers in northern Iraq as a result of an attack, blaming the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
“One of our soldiers was seriously wounded in a mortar attack by the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) on one of our bases. He was taken to hospital where it was not possible to save him,” the Turkish Defense Ministry said in a statement.
“We responded immediately,” the Turkish defense ministry added, explaining that the attack took place in an area close to the Turkish border where Turkish forces regularly launch operations against the bases of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party in northern Iraq.
The Turkish military operations have caused dozens of deaths and injuries among civilians living in the Iraqi border areas, as well as causing significant damage to public and private property.
