SYRIA | According to the latest information, the United States targeted a high-ranking Al Qaeda commander bombing his vehicle. The commander of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda was located on September 20 northeast of Idlib in Syria, which is under the control of the Syrian rebels.

The U.S. military said on Friday several days after that Salim Abu-Ahmad was the person targeted revealing him as a top al-Qaeda commander in the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

The UAV struck the terrorist shortly after afternoon close to a Syrian village, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The U.S. Central Command admitted to killing an Al Qaeda member that day but did not name him. In a statement, Centcom spokesman John Riggsby said Salim Abu-Ahmad “was responsible for planning, financing and approving al Qaeda’s inter-regional attacks.”

“There is no evidence of civilian casualties as a result of the attack” the statement added. Many terrorist groups are active in the Idlib region, with Al Qaeda leading several of them.
