Turkey has rejected a call by French President Emmanuel Macron for foreign troops to leave Libya.

The French president said at a conference on peace in Libya a few days ago in Paris that “Russia and Turkey must withdraw their mercenaries without delay.”

In response, Turkish presidential spokesman and Erdogan’s adviser Ibrahim Kalin told the French news agency AFP that Macron was wrong.

“If you single out the withdrawal of foreign troops from Libya as the most important, as the top issue, we think this is wrong,” Kalin told AFP.

“Libya needs support for its political process, the elections, for economic issues.
Our military presence is to help train the Libyan army.

We are there as a force for stability and aid to the Libyan people. “And our priority in terms of security is to help the Libyans build their united Libyan Army,” Ibrahim Kalin concluded in its statements.
