In one of the largest deployments of the British army since the end of the Cold War, some 8,000 troops will take part in exercises across Eastern Europe as part of the fight against Russian aggression.
Large numbers of tanks and tens of thousands of NATO and Joint Expeditionary Force troops will be deployed over a range from Finland to Skopje this summer.
The British Ministry of Defense announced that the exercise had been prepared for a long time but was strengthened in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

British Lt. Gen. Ralph Wooddisse said: “The United Kingdom is making a significant contribution to Europe’s defense and to preventing Russian aggression.
The British Army’s range of exercises is fundamental to both the scale of development and the professionalism, training, and flexibility of the British military, which will prevent aggression on a scale not seen in Europe this century. “
“Europe’s security has never been more important,” said Ben Wallace, Bethany’s defense minister. “These exercises will see our troops join forces with allies and partners across NATO and the Joint Expeditionary Force in a show of solidarity and strength in one of the largest joint troop deployments since the Cold War.”
