Data we collect

1. Technical data

Every time you visit the website, your browser automatically sends technical data such as your IP address, browser type (User Agent), operating system, the page requested and the date and time of the visit.

  • Purpose: to deliver the website, protect it against attacks (e.g. DDoS), spam and abuse, and fix technical errors.
  • Who processes it: our hosting provider and Cloudflare, which provides content delivery and security for the website.
  • Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure and working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

2. Contact by email

When you contact Geopolitiki.com by email, we collect the details you give us (name, email, subject, message) solely to reply to your request. These details are not used for marketing without your explicit consent.

3. Comments

Geopolitiki.com does not offer comments or user accounts for readers, so we do not collect data through comment forms or registrations.

Cookies

1. Use of cookies

We use cookies to make sure the website works properly and to improve your experience. Cookies fall into the following categories:

  • Strictly necessary cookies: needed for the website to work and to keep it secure (e.g. Cloudflare’s protection against bots, and the cookie that remembers your consent choices). They do not require consent.
  • Analytics cookies (Google Analytics): used only with your consent.
  • Advertising cookies (Google AdSense): used only with your consent.
  • Technical login cookies: set only for editors who log in to the site’s administration area.

2. Consent management

A. Google Analytics (audience measurement)

We use Google Analytics 4, set up through Google Site Kit and Google Tag Manager, to understand how readers use the website.

  • What it collects: the pages you visit, time spent on the site, device type (mobile/desktop), operating system and your general geographic area. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses.
  • Purpose: to improve our content and the speed of the website.
  • It is activated only if you consent through the consent pop-up.

B. Google AdSense (advertising)

The website is funded by advertising served by Google AdSense. AdSense uses cookies to show ads, measure their performance and, if you allow it, show ads related to your interests. We use the Advanced Ads plugin to manage ad placements on our pages.

  • What it collects: data about your interaction with ads, your browsing on geopolitiki.com and on other websites, and general demographic data.

C. OneSignal (push notifications)

We use OneSignal to send you new articles and breaking news straight to your desktop or any device you choose, once you accept the service.

  • What it collects: a unique identifier (Player ID), your subscription status and data on whether you opened a notification.
  • Note: the service is activated only if you click “Allow” in your browser’s notification request. You can unsubscribe at any time from your browser settings.

D. Cloudflare (security and delivery)

Cloudflare delivers the website’s pages quickly and protects it against attacks. It processes technical data such as your IP address and may set strictly necessary security cookies.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on Geopolitiki.com may include embedded content (e.g. YouTube videos, posts from X/Twitter, images, maps). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if the visitor had visited the original website.

  • Third-party privacy policies: Geopolitiki.com does not control the cookies or data practices of third-party providers. We recommend reading their own privacy policies (e.g. Google Privacy Policy, X Privacy Policy).
  • Data collection by third parties: these websites (e.g. Google/YouTube, Meta, X) may collect data about you, use their own cookies, embed additional third-party tracking and record your interaction with the embedded content.
  • Interaction tracking: if you have an account and are logged in to the third-party website (e.g. you are logged in to Gmail while watching a YouTube video on geopolitiki.com), your activity may be linked to your account by that provider.
  • Share buttons: the buttons for Facebook, X, LinkedIn and WhatsApp are plain links. No data is sent to these services unless you click them.

Data management, retention and rights

1. Sharing data with third parties

We do not sell or rent your personal data. Data is shared only with:

  • Google (Analytics, Tag Manager, AdSense), as described above and only with your consent where required.
  • OneSignal, only if you subscribe to notifications.
  • Cloudflare and our hosting provider, for technical and security reasons.

Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area (e.g. in the United States). Such transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

2. Retention

  • Technical data (server logs): up to [30] days, unless needed to investigate a security incident.
  • Google Analytics: [14] months, after which it is deleted automatically.
  • Push notifications: for as long as you remain subscribed.
  • Email correspondence: for as long as needed to complete our communication and keep a record of requests, unless you ask for deletion or the law requires us to keep it.

3. Your rights (GDPR)

  • Access and portability: ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure (“right to be forgotten”): ask us to delete your personal data. This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security reasons.
  • Restriction and objection: ask us to restrict processing or object to processing based on our legitimate interest.
  • Withdrawal of consent: change or withdraw your cookie consent at any time through the “Privacy and cookie settings” link.

  • Protection from malicious software: although we apply modern security measures (HTTPS encryption, web application firewall, access controls), we cannot guarantee that the website or the servers through which our content is delivered are free of viruses or other malicious software.
