Fujian: China’s largest, most modern aircraft carrier was launched

On Friday, China successfully launched “Fujian” its largest and most advanced Chinese aircraft carrier to date, at a time when tensions are at an all-time high between China and the United States.

The People’s Liberation Army is undergoing a significant transformation under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, who has vowed to build a “fully modern” force that can compete with the United States military by the year 2027.

Fujian: China's largest, most modern aircraft carrier was launched

According to Chinese media, the newly constructed ship, which has been given the name Fujian, is the “first catapult aircraft carrier wholly designed and built by China” and in order to commemorate the launch of the enormous ship, the sky above the ship was colored with colorful smoke by jets.

According to Xinhua, the official Chinese news agency, the carrier is equipped with significantly more cutting-edge technology than China’s other two aircraft carriers, including electromagnetic catapults that allow it to launch aircraft off of its deck.

After calling its first two carriers after the provinces of Liaoning and Shandong, China’s third and most recent carrier is named after Fujian, which is located on the country’s southeastern coast.
