Information: India “equips” Armenia with 155mm ATAGS artillery systems

Armenia has been moving slowly in rearming its Armed Forces, choosing India as the supplier for what both Armenian and Indian sources claim is the procurement of the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS).

While India’s Defence Ministry reports that an agreement has been signed to export the system, it did not name the country that purchased the very powerful 155 mm gun called ATAGS which was developed by the Indian state-run DRDO in collaboration with the Kalyani Group and TATA.

Armenia, however, is so far the only country that has been actively interested in the ATAGS system since last year with meetings already held on the subject and Armenian media confirming the procurement.

“India, which was known as an importing country about eight years ago, exports large platforms like the Dornier-228, Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS 155 mm) , Rockets & missiles, PINAKA MLRS systems, Ammunition, Thermal sights, vests etc…”, the Indian Ministry of Defence said in its statement.

Armenia in the last one year has been trying to avoid a new war that Azerbaijan seems to seek, and at the same time Armenia is rearming at the fastest possible pace, as it neither has the financial capacity and also has lost large numbers of military equipment from the war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
