MEDUSA 11: The most important exercise in the Eastern Mediterranean

The series of exercises “MEDUSA” such as MEDUSA 11 is part of the broader planning of the Hellenic Army General Staff and the General Staff of Egypt. The multinational Task Force carried out increased difficulty military scenarios, making it one of the most important exercises conducted in the Eastern Mediterranean.

More specifically, according to a recent statement issued by the Hellenic National Defense General Staff on Monday, November 22, 2021, in the presence of the Minister of National Defense, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, and the Chief of General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, the Distinguished Visitors Day took part in which the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Cyprus also participated with resources and personnel.

The purpose of exercise “MEDUSA 11,” which took place in the wider region of Crete from November 17 to 22, 2021, with observers from France, India, Jordan, Morocco, Portugal, and Saudi Arabia, was conducted in order to strengthen cooperation and interoperability among the participating countries’ armed forces, as well as to conduct advanced operational training in a multi-threat environment.

The combined amphibious attack exercise on the Maleme coast of Crete was completed in demanding operational scenarios accomplished with utmost precision by the participating forces’ means and forces.

The “MEDUSA” series of exercises are part of a larger plan of the Hellenic Army General Staff and the General Staff of Egypt in the context of bilateral military cooperation between the two countries and the expansion of participants with the Republic of Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates in 2018 and 2020, respectively.

The multinational Task Force carried out during the exercise difficult military scenarios & operations, making it one of the most crucial exercises held in the Eastern Mediterranean, contributing to the region’s stability and security.
