American Rheinmetall at AUSA 2026: Lynx XM30, HX Truck, Skyranger 30 on Boxer and four ground robots
Rheinmetall's U.S. arm brings combat vehicles, autonomous trucks, air defence, robots and munitions to AUSA 2026, citing more than 1,500 employees across six states.
American Rheinmetall, the U.S. arm of the German group, is using AUSA 2026 in Washington to present a line-up spanning combat vehicles, autonomy, air defence and munitions for U.S. Army modernisation. According to a Rheinmetall press release of 12 October, the company is at booth 2825 at the annual meeting, which runs from 12 to 14 October under the motto “America’s Army: The Foundation of the Joint Force”.
A growing U.S. footprint
Rheinmetall says American Rheinmetall Defense, headquartered in Vienna, Virginia, has a domestic footprint across Arkansas, Maine, Michigan, Ohio, Texas and Virginia, with more than 1,500 U.S. employees. Company CEO Matt Warnick said AUSA is “a critical venue for engaging with the Army and defense community”. The company says it is delivering prototype vehicles to the Army for test and evaluation under the XM30 Combat Vehicle programme, where it offers the Lynx XM30. The Lynx is shown as visuals only, and two panels on the XM30 are scheduled at the booth.
Autonomy and air defence
For the Army’s launcher requirement known as CAML, Rheinmetall offers the HX Truck. The company says more than 20,000 HX vehicles have been fielded globally, that autonomy has been deployed on 24 chassis types in 19 countries, and that a CAML mission demonstration took place at Redstone Arsenal in June 2026.
In air defence, the Boxer carrying the Skyranger 30 is presented as a short-range system for manoeuvre forces, with a 30 mm gun and what Rheinmetall calls a blended effector suite and autonomous engagement capabilities for counter-drone and short-range air defence tasks. A remote weapon station with effectors is also on show.
Ground robots and munitions
Rheinmetall lists four unmanned ground vehicles. The Ox is described as competing in the Army’s GOAT programme. The MUSKOX medium vehicle is said to have been down-selected for the Army’s Project Sustainment Program, and the Mission Master Silent Partner is down-selected for the Last Tactical Mile programme. The Wild Goose, a fully fielded infantry robotic system, is quoted with a 330 lb payload and a terrain-dependent range of up to 25 km.
On munitions, the company will show 155 mm extended-range propellants, rocket-assisted V-LAP rounds, advanced airburst munitions and the Highly-Advanced Multi-Mission Rifle, a magazine-loaded 40 mm shoulder-fired grenade launcher. It also highlights its role as a Tier 1 supplier of components, including a cab for the Multiple Launch Rocket System.
Context
The release is a company showcase, and several of the programme positions it cites are Rheinmetall’s own descriptions rather than Army announcements. AUSA is also the stage for other industry news this week, including the first US Army receives first Hanwha Mobile Tactical Cannon, set to replace M777 howitzers.
