Saab has received an order worth SEK 1.3 billion from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for a new-generation flight control computer for the Gripen fighter, the company announced on 15 October. Delivery is planned during 2030.

The new computer will replace the current version. Saab describes it as a future-proof design meant to meet long-term requirements on availability, performance and security of supply, and says the work will be carried out in close cooperation with FMV.

The flight control computer is a central part of the Gripen’s flight control system, which helps the aircraft manoeuvre safely and precisely.

Marcus Wandt, head of Saab’s Aeronautics business area, said: “We look forward to continuing our close collaboration with FMV.” He added that the new computer will support the Gripen’s capability and performance for decades to come.

The order follows other recent Gripen industrial steps. Geopolitiki reported on Saab and GKN Aerospace sign cooperation deal on Gripen E/F engine, following Swedish government decision, announced a week earlier.
