The Russian army is on the outskirts of Kyiv, less than 15 km from the city center.
The Ukrainian army continues to defend the city and has called on citizens to resist enemy advances in Kyiv with weapons and Molotov cocktails while calling for the acceleration of procedures for those citizens who want to voluntarily enlist in the armed forces.
Ukraine says air defences intercepted two missiles on Friday morning and shot down a Russian aircraft that crashed in a residential area.
The West has so far responded only with sanctions, and Ukrainian President Zelensky has called on the international community to do more, as sanctions do not appear to have been enough to stop Russia.
