During the defense exhibition DEFEA 2023, Intracom Defense went ahead to present the loitering munition “ATTALUS”, which was developed in collaboration with the Hellenic Defense Systems (EAS).
Although late, Greece seems to be dynamically entering the field of mobile ammunition not only through agreements with the companies – giants of the field, but also with the development of domestic products in mind.
ATTALUS technical characteristics
ATTALUS is a light loitering munition designed to destroy tanks or other armoured vehicles as well as for reconnaissance and surveillance operations. It is launched using a catapult, a feature that makes it particularly easy to use.
It is a high-speed weapon system that can fly for 42 minutes at a speed of 85 km per hour at an altitude of 1,500 meters. During the attack against targets, it can achieve a speed of 280 km per hour using its electric motor.
It has a length of 1.6 meters, a wingspan of 2.3 meters and a maximum take-off weight of 13.6 kg. It has a range of about 50km.
The ATTALUS has a 1.2 kg explosive warhead with which it can hit armored personnel carriers. In particular, it can penetrate 400 millimeters of armor (RHA).
One of the advantages of the ATTALUS is the ability to fly in swarms and target the enemy using artificial intelligence. It also uses an infrared sensor and an electro-optical sensor, which allow it to engage targets with high precision.
Finally, ATTALUS is controlled from a ground station while integrating an INS (Intertial Navigation System) and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) navigation system.
