Breaking: Erdogan orders the expulsion of 10 ambassadors from Turkey

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has said he has instructed the Turkish Foreign minister to declare 10 ambassadors “persona non grata”, including the United States envoy, after a joint statement urging the release of Osman Kavala.

The decision was announced by Erdogan himself during statements on Saturday, noting that he had instructed Foreign Minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu to settle the issue.

The outrage was sparked by a joint statement issued by the 10 diplomats earlier this week.

Specifically, they urged for a speedy and fair resolution of the case of Osman Kavalas, who has been held in prison since the end of 2017 without a conviction against him.

Osman Kavala faces many charges, including allegedly funding anti-Erdogan protests and participating in the failed 2016 coup.
