A large police crackdown is underway in central Vienna, a police spokesman said Monday night, as the Kronen Zeitung reported an attack on a synagogue and shootings.
According to information, there are dead people and many seriously injured. Videos show Austrian special forces automatically running through Vienna’s sidewalks and exchanging gunfire in several parts of the city.

The terrorists appear to have taken hostages at a restaurant in another part of Vienna in parallel with the shootings in the city center, according to reports by the Austrian broadcaster OE24.
The hostages are at the Japanese restaurant Akakio located on Mariahilferstraße in the Austrian capital.
