China claims NATO is creating conflicts around the world

On the anniversary of the NATO missile strike on the Chinese embassy in Belgrade on May 7, 1999, China accused NATO of being behind conflicts and causing humanitarian catastrophe around the world.

NATO’s repeated expansion eastward after the Cold War not only failed to make Europe safer but also sowed the seeds of conflict,” Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Zhang Jun told the UN Security Council meeting on Thursday.

Contrary to its claims to be a defense organization, NATO has repeatedly launched wars against sovereign states, resulting in huge losses and humanitarian catastrophes, according to the Chinese permanent representative to the UN.

According to the South China Morning Post, Zhang made the remarks during a session on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, in which he advocated a peaceful settlement as well as methods to reduce the effects of the war in the region.

As part of its “anachronistic security philosophy,” NATO is “willing to ignite divisions within the alliances and create tensions in Europe, as well as throughout the Asia-Pacific region and the rest of the world,” Zhang said.
