“China is stealing more data than all countries combined,”…
The FBI says as its Director Christopher Wray accuses Beijing of stealing American ideas and innovation and initiating major cyberattacks and stated that the Beijing government’s threat to the West is “more brazen” and damaging than ever.
Wray made it apparent that, even as Russia-Ukraine tensions dominate American foreign policy, the United States continues to see Beijing as the greatest threat to its long-term economic stability.
According to a copy of Wray’s speech provided by the FBI, “When we tally up what we see in our investigations, over 2,000 of which are focused on the Chinese government trying to steal our information or technology, there’s just no country that presents a broader threat to our ideas, innovation, and economic security than China.”
Every 12 hours or so, Wray said, the office is launching new investigations to fight Chinese intelligence operations, with the country’s government hackers stealing more personal and business data than all other countries combined.
“The harm from the Chinese government’s economic espionage isn’t just that its companies pull ahead based on illegally gotten technology. While they pull ahead, they push our companies and workers behind. That harm – company failures, job losses – has been building for a decade to the crush we feel today. It’s harm felt across the country, by workers in a whole range of industries,” Wray said.
