Exxon Mobil is preparing to begin drilling on plot 10 of Cyprus EEZ in the near future. The Stena Forth drilling rig that will carry out confirmation drilling in the “Glafkos” field of the plot, in order to determine with more precision the amount of natural gas contained in the field, has been anchored already in Limassol, Cyprus.
It is noted that the first drilling, which took place in 2019, showed a deposit of 5-8 tcf of natural gas.
This is a 6th generation “Hard Environment” drilling rig that can drill up to 10,000 feet deep. Before moving to Cyprus for Exxon Mobil drilling, Stena Forth operated in Israel on the depleted Mari B and Noa deposits outside the city of Ashkelon.
The Stena Forth floating drilling rig will be supported by the Demarest Tide supply-support ship that’s already in Limassol, Cyprus, the Lundstrom Tideo, and the Cypriot-flagged EDT LEON.
