Ukrainian Defense Minister: “We don’t plan to attack Donbas”

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov spoke about the Russian official’s allegations of an imminent attack of Ukraine against Donbas after a buildup of troops, saying this is a defensive military movement against Russia’s own troop buildup, but they have “no plans to attack anyone.”

Though Russia continues to deny providing the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics with troops and weapons, it also warned Ukraine against attempting to take the Donbas region back by force.

Russian officials stated on Russian Media that Ukraine’s massive military build up intends in trying to reclaim the pro-Russian provinces, with Russian Chief of the General Staff General Valery Gerasimov sending a clear military warning that any “provocation” in the Donbas region would be “suppressed.”

However, Ukrainian officials insist that this troop buildup is only focused on defensive operations against a possible Russian invasion.

More specifically, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov responded to these allegations, saying that this is a defensive measure in response to Russia’s own force buildup, but that there are “no plans to strike anyone.”

According to Ukrainian officials, this army movement is a response to Russia’s recent buildup of around 85,000 troops near its border with Ukraine.

Aside from Ukraine, several other Western countries have made it clear that they will stand behind their neighbor if it is attacked by Russia. According to Oleksii Reznikov, any conflict in Ukraine would be a conflict with Europe. He declared that Ukrainians would not be left alone if Russia invades but these statements seem that is not true as there in our opinion on Geopolitiki, almost zero possibility for any nation to support Ukraine with military means.

Also according to him, Ukraine has the constitutional right to join any military alliance, including NATO, and that “we are going to be a de facto NATO member and apply NATO standards.” which is something that Russian President Vladimir Putin claims as a red line for Russia.
