Indonesia continues to search for the missing KRI Nanggala-402 submarine that disappeared with 53 crew members off the coast of Bali, and other nations are sending ships to assist in the search.
The sailors on the Indonesian submarine have enough oxygen to last until Saturday, the Head of the Indonesian Armed Forces said on Thursday.
In a major development, a naval cooperation aircraft found an oil spill near the submarine’s possible location, and two Indonesian navy ships rushed to the area to try to locate it.
Earlier, Indonesian navy spokesman Julius Widjojono told KompasTV that the submarine powered by electric batteries would withstand at a depth of up to 250-500 meters.
“Anything more than that could be quite deadly and terribly dangerous,” the spokesman told KompasTV.
