Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu spoke in an interview about the purchase of Russian S-400 air defence systems from Turkey. The Turkish lawmaker, the leader of the CHP party, revealed why the Erdogan government bought the Russian systems despite the problems that this procurement would obviously cause for turkey.
“Why did they buy the S-400s?” said Kilicdaroglu. “Will Greece, Iraq or Syria attack us? “We bought them in exchange for the plane we shot down,” he said, referring to the Russian Sukhoi that Turkey shot down in 2015 in northern Syria.
“If you are in the NATO alliance and you are arming yourself outside the alliance, how will you participate in the joint exercises?
Our air defence is very weak at the moment, everyone knows that. Turkey’s air defence is currently the weakest in the region.
They do not give us enough spare parts for the F-16s.
The money we paid for the F-35 is not returned to us. We will change our foreign policy 180 degrees. This is damaging Turkey.” said the Turkish MP.
