Dendias: a Hellenic Air Force with 200 fighters, hundreds of drones and a Space Command
Defence Minister Nikos Dendias presented plans under “Agenda 2030” for an upgraded Hellenic Air Force: 200 modern fighters, hundreds of drones, aerial refuelling and satellite capabilities.
A plan for a radically upgraded Hellenic Air Force, with 200 modern fighter platforms, hundreds of drones, aerial refuelling capability and satellite systems, was presented by Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias, within the framework of “Agenda 2030.”
The minister spoke on Sunday, November 8, at the official celebration of the Air Force’s patron saint, Archangel Michael, at the Icarus School at Dekelia Air Base. The Chief of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff, Lieutenant General (Air) Dimosthenis Grigoriadis, also addressed the event.
Nikos Dendias stressed that the Air Force is a basic pillar of Greece’s deterrent power, noting that the plan provides for manned fighters working together with hundreds of unmanned systems, which will strengthen its operational capabilities.
He placed particular emphasis on the acquisition of aerial refuelling aircraft, a capability that will increase the endurance and operational range of Greek fighters. He also referred to the creation of a Space Command and to the use of satellites to support military operations.
The priorities of “Agenda 2030” also include the creation of a unified Air Defence Dome and the development of a Joint Unmanned Aircraft Training Centre, with the aim of adapting the Armed Forces to the demands of the modern battlefield.
The minister praised the contribution of military and civilian personnel, stressing that technological upgrading and the use of new operational capabilities are basic prerequisites for maintaining the country’s deterrent power and air superiority.
