Naval Group signed ten new contracts with Greek companies and two cooperation memoranda on research and innovation on Wednesday, November 4, on the margins of EURONAVAL 2026, the major naval defence exhibition Paris is hosting. The signings were made known by the French shipbuilding group itself in a post on its official LinkedIn account, which presents them as proof of its long-term commitment to deepening its relationship with Greek industry and Greek universities.
The agreements fall into three groups. Five concern directly the construction of the FDI frigates, another five cover maintenance and services, while the two memoranda open the way to joint research programmes. The work on the frigates is spread across different parts of the country, from Piraeus and Salamis to Volos, Thessaloniki and Florina.
Five contracts for the FDI frigates
In the first group the contract with Salamis Shipyards stands out: the yard will build new FDI frigate blocks at its facilities in Salamis. The Greek shipyard already has experience in the programme, as sections for the Greek frigate Themistocles have been sent from Salamis to Lorient. Outfitted blocks for the French Navy’s third FDI frigate have also been delivered in France.
METLEN takes on the production of torpedo tubes in Volos. KAYKAS will build electrical and emergency panels in Thessaloniki, while KASIDIARIS will produce propulsion system control panels in Piraeus. The five is completed by B&T Composites, which will develop in Florina composite-materials work related to low-pressure prototypes.
Maintenance, services and research
The second group of contracts concerns support. FOTEINAKIS will provide welding and mechanical engineering studies, and H. Gelasakis will act as local shipping agent. HERMES will supply mobile cranes for moving heavy equipment, IKRIOMA SKORDILAKIS metal scaffolding and MARITA HELLAS safety and firefighting solutions.
The two memoranda concern research and innovation programmes, with an emphasis on seabed warfare. With FEAC, Naval Group will cooperate on seabed warfare, life-cycle performance, digital twin and signature analysis. The second memorandum was signed with SOTIRIA Technology, which the group chose for its capabilities in maritime sensors, magnetometers and seabed warfare.
A few days earlier, on October 30, the Hellenic Navy had received in Lorient Nearchos, the second of the frigates in the Greek FDI series. Naval Group had then said that more than 75 Greek companies already take part in the FDI programmes. With the ten new contracts the participation of Greek companies in the programme is strengthened, both in building and in supporting the ships.
