Russian drone attacks on Thursday 29 October killed at least five people in two Ukrainian cities, Chernihiv in the north and Kremenchuk in the Poltava region, according to Ukrainian officials. The strikes came on the same day as the attack on the railway station in Dnipro, where officials reported 13 dead.
Chernihiv: two 15-year-old girls killed
Chernihiv Region Governor Viacheslav Chaus said two 15-year-old girls were killed when a drone hit the centre of the city. Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, head of the Chernihiv City Military Administration, reported a strike on the city with shops on fire. The city council later said 11 people were injured, including two minors, and that cars were burning after the strike on the city centre.
Kremenchuk: high-rise residential building hit
In Kremenchuk, a drone struck a high-rise residential building. Poltava Regional Military Administration head Vitalii Diakivnych first reported two dead and one injured, with parked cars on fire. Later updates raised the toll to three killed and 15 injured, including children, with all emergency services working at the scene. The figures were still being clarified when they were reported.
Context
Both sets of figures come from Ukrainian regional and city officials, relayed by the Ukrainian national news agency Ukrinform, and may change. The reports reviewed did not include a Russian comment. Our report on the earlier strike the same day, Dnipro railway station: 13 killed in Russian jet-drone strike on a platform, Ukrainian officials say, covers the attack on the railway platform. Ukrainian officials said emergency crews were still working at the Kremenchuk site, and updated casualty counts are expected from the regional authorities as the clearance continues.
