The Pentagon said Monday that Denmark would send Harpoon anti-ship missiles to Ukraine and the Czech Republic attack helicopters, tanks and missile systems.
The United States Secretary of Defense announced that five new countries participated in the Pentagon’s video conference on Monday on Ukraine’s defense.
“Everyone here understands what is at stake in this war,” Austin told reporters.
Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, Ireland and Kosovo are the new countries participating in the meeting. According to US Chief of Staff General Mark Milley, this brings the total number of participating countries to 47.
Milley said the United States has more than 102,000 troops in Europe, up from 24,000 last fall.
Of the 102,000 troops, 15,000 in the area are naval personnel while twelve squadrons of fighter jets are in the air.
Austin also praised some countries for promising new weapons packages to Kyiv, citing Denmark as intending to provide launchers and Harpoon missiles for Ukraine’s coastal defense against the Russian navy.
The Pentagon chief said the Czech Republic would provide Ukraine with attack helicopters, tanks and missile systems.
Asked about the deployment of US troops in Ukraine, Milley said the United States was still “far from doing so”.
