In a successful targeted operation on April 17, US forces under the US Central Command (CENTCOM) have eliminated Abd-al-Hadi Mahmud al-Haji Ali, a top ISIS leader in Syria who was responsible for planning terrorist attacks in both the Middle East and Europe. The operation was carried out via a helicopter raid in response to intelligence revealing an ISIS plot to kidnap officials abroad.
The elimination of al-Haji Ali is a significant victory in the ongoing fight against ISIS, as he was the primary target of the raid and his elimination deals a major blow to ISIS operations in the region, according to the CENTCOM statement.
However, while this is a step in the right direction, the fight against ISIS is far from over, warns CENTCOM spokesman Colonel Joe Buccino.
“We know that ISIS retains a desire to strike beyond the Middle East. This raid deals a significant blow to ISIS operations in the region, but it does not eliminate ISIS’ ability to conduct operations,” he said.
The successful operation showcases the US military’s continued commitment to dismantling ISIS operations and protecting global security. It also serves as a reminder that terrorist threats remain a significant concern and require continued vigilance and action.
