New NAVTEX messages were issued by the hydrographic station of Izmir in Turkey for military exercises by the Turkish Navy.
The NAVTEX messages have a total duration of 9 months and reserve 3 different areas of the Aegean sea near Greek islands in the Thracian sea, central and northeastern Aegean.
Specifically, these areas are north of Lemnos, between Thassos and Samothrace and between Skyros, Lesvos and Agios Efstratios. NAVTEX messages for these areas run from January 1st, 2022, to June 14th and from September 16th to December 31st.
From the periods of time that illegally reserves these sea areas, Turkey excludes national and religious holidays such as New Year’s Day, Epiphany, Easter, Christmas, Greek Independence Day, and other holidays.
Turkish media say the new Turkish NAVTEX messages are proof that Turkey will not allow Greece to perform its legal right to expand its territorial waters to 12 nautical miles.
