The chargé d’affaires of the Greek Embassy in Libya, Ioannis Stamatekos, and the Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), Yousef Al-Aghouri, had an online meeting during which they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
The two diplomats also discussed ways to facilitate travel between the two countries and open direct flights.
The Greek chargé d’affaires confirmed Greece’s willingness to strengthen relations with Libya. For his part, Al-Aghouri welcomed the important role played by Greece in resolving the Libyan crisis.
They also referred to the illegal Turkish-Libyan memorandum that Turkey had signed with the Government of National Accord (GNA).
The Libyan MP said the country’s parliament is interested in the stability of the eastern Mediterranean region.
The two sides agreed to continue meetings and mutual visits for further coordination and discussions on issues of concern to the two countries.
It is recalled that Greece reopened its embassy in Libya about a year ago, which was closed after the conclusion of the Turkish-Libyan memorandum in 2019.
