In the context of a Turkish exercise, 22 Turkish fighter jets caused the reaction of the Greek Tactical Air Force Headquarters on Monday.
According to the General Staff of the Hellenic Air Force, 22 Turkish F-16s violated Greece’s Airspace over the Northeast, Central and Southeast Aegean, with 6 of them being recognized by Greek fighter jets to be armed.
The Tactical Aviation Headquarters ordered the immediate take-off of Greek fighter jets that made 7 engagements with the armed Turkish ones, intercepting them and leading to their departure from the Athens FIR.
On Monday there were also violations by three Turkish helicopters and a CN-235 maritime surveillance aircraft in a possible anti-submarine role.
These actions of Turkey are not random at all as Ankara is trying to show its frustration that Greece is officially starting the research for the construction of the EAST MED pipeline with 2 research vessels currently conducting research in the Aegean.
