In a gesture of goodwill to the Irish government and the Irish fish producers that were opposing this exercise, Russia will relocate its naval drills away from the Irish EEZ (exclusive economic zone).
“In response to the requests from the Irish government as well as from the Irish South and West Fish Producer’s Organisation the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu has made a decision, as a gesture of goodwill, to relocate the exercises by the Russian Navy, planned for February 3-8, outside the Irish exclusive economic zone (EEZ), with the aim not to hinder fishing activities by the Irish vessels in the traditional fishing areas,” said Yuriy Filatov, Ambassador of Russia to Ireland on 29.01.2022.
An Irish team led by P. Murphy had paid a visit to the Russian embassy in Dublin on January 27.
The delegation represented the Irish Organization of Southern and Western Fish Producers. During the conversation, which was conducted in a pleasant and constructive manner, problems pertaining to the Russian Navy’s scheduled drills in the area close to Ireland were discussed.
