The Ukrainian consul in St. Petersburg, Russia Alexander Sosonyuk tried to intercept information from the FSB database and the criminal case database of Russian citizens according to the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB).
A video released by the FSB’s Public Affairs Center shows the arrest of the Ukrainian Consul on Friday in St. Petersburg during a meeting with a Russian citizen who allegedly had classified information.
“You’re in custody for illegal acts related to espionage,” an FSB official told him as he was getting arrested.
In its statement, Russia’s Federal Security Service stressed that the activities of the Ukrainian consul were highly hostile to Russia and that it would be subject to measures in accordance with international law.
