THE U.S. RECOGNIZED THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved the US resolution recognizing the Armenian genocide a century ago as a symbolic but historic move that is sure to fuel new tensions with Turkey.

The House, which is controlled by the Democrats, approved by 405 votes to 11 in the resolution that it was US policy to commemorate the 1.5 million Armenians massacred by the Ottoman Empire between 1915 and 1923.
