In a statement issued recently by US Pentagon spokesperson Major General Pat Ryder, the United States reaffirmed its determination to prevent Iran and its proxies from exploiting the escalating conflict in the Middle East. The statement also highlighted the military forces already deployed in the region in case of further involvement.
“The United States is determined to prevent Iran and its Iran-backed proxies from exploiting the situation or expanding the conflict,” the statement emphasized. General Ryder stressed that the US would take “every necessary measure to defend its forces and people” if American forces or interests, including those indirectly involving Israel, were threatened.
US Military Presence in the Middle East
To support this warning, the Pentagon confirmed that the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group (CSG) will remain stationed within the US Central Command (CENTCOM) area, while the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp, along with the Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), continues its operations in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Additionally, the US has deployed a formidable air force presence in the region, consisting of F-22, F-15E, F-16, and A-10 aircraft. These assets are ready to provide a “rapid response capability” against any potential threats from Iran or its proxies.
Preparedness for Further Escalation with Iran
The Pentagon has also heightened the readiness of additional US forces, ensuring they can be rapidly deployed to the Middle East if the situation escalates further. Major General Pat Ryder emphasized that while the US seeks de-escalation, it remains prepared to act decisively if Iran or its partners attempt to destabilize the region further.
