The United States Navy has just decided to go ahead and build the third Constellation Class Frigate, which will be named USS Chesapeake (FFG 64).
The third ship in the class, the USS Chesapeake, was awarded to Fincantieri Marinette Marine (FMM) after the class Critical Design Review. The program completed Critical Design Review in May and is going to Production Readiness Review and start of production for USS Constellation (FFG 62).
Fincantieri Marinette Marine was awarded the contract for the first 10 FFG 62 class ships on April 30, 2020.
The Constellation Class Guided Missile Frigate (FFG 62) is a multi-mission vessel built for blue water and littoral missions and they can operate independently or as part of a Carrier/Expeditionary Strike Group or Surface Action Group and are outfitted for Navy Composite Warfare and Joint Maritime Operations.
USS CONSTELLATION (FFG 62), USS CONGRESS (FFG 63), and USS CHESAPEAKE (FFG 64) are the names that have been given to the first three ships of this class by the Secretary of the United States Navy.
