The Russian ambassador to Nicaragua implied that Russian armed forces have been deployed to Central America…
as he stated that military cooperation between Nicaragua and Russia is not targeting any country.
Speaking to Russian media on Friday, Alexandr Khokholikov, Russia’s ambassador to Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador, spoke of the possibility of Russian forces deployment to Central America.
The Russian ambassador said that military cooperation between Russia and Nicaragua “is not directed against third nations”, and that the deployment of troops would have nothing to do with Russia’s disagreements with the United States over the Ukrainian issue.
The United States has already warned Russia not to make such moves, saying:
“If Russia moves in that direction, we will address this situation decisively,” said Jake Sullivan, the United States’ national security adviser, in mid-January.
