The Chief of the General Staff of Greece, General Konstantinos Floros, accompanied by the Chief of the Navy General Staff, Rear Admiral Stylianos Petrakis, on Saturday, July 3rd attended the Inauguration Ceremony of the new Egyptian Naval Base under the name “3rd JULY” in GARGOUB, on the northwest coast of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the Mediterranean, following an official invitation from his counterpart the Chief of the Egyptian General Staff Lieutenant General Mohamed Farid Hegazy, who will be visiting Greece from Monday, July 5th to Thursday, July 8th.
The Naval Base “3rd JULY” was inaugurated by the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
Those present also had the opportunity to attend an impressive interdisciplinary demonstration, which presented the operational capabilities of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
“The inauguration of the new Base marks the impressive increase in the capabilities of the Egyptian Navy and the role of the Arab Republic of Egypt as a pillar of peace and stability in the Central and Eastern Mediterranean.” the HNDGS (Hellenic National Defence General Staff) announced. The invitation of the Greek military leadership to the historic ceremony is going to further seal the special and strong relationship between the Armed Forces of the two countries.
Among the official guests was the president President the Libyan Presidential Council, Mr. Mohamed al-Menfi, members of the Royal Family of the United Arab Emirates, members of the Cabinet of Egypt, the Minister of Defence of Cyprus Mr Charalambos Petridis, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia General Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Djibouti General Zakaria Chiek Imbrahim , as well as the Commander of the 5th U.S. Fleet Vice Admiral Charles Cooper II.
