Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters he remained committed to eliminating Kurdish “terrorist” forces in northern Syria.
“As I always say, we will attack them suddenly one night, and so it should be,” the Turkish president was quoted as saying by the Turkish daily Hurriyet.
Erdogan made it clear that he would launch a new offensive against the YPG in northern Syria, but did not specify when. However, the Kurds of YPG are an important ally of USA in the fight against Islamic State, a fact that has angered Ankara.
“All the forces of the US-led coalition have provided these terrorist groups with a significant amount of weapons, vehicles, tools, ammunition and continue to do so. “The United States has given them thousands of trucks,” Erdogan said and noted that Turkey will not ask anyone for permission to fight terrorism.
“If the United States does not fulfill its duty to fight terrorism, what will we do? We will take care of ourselves”, he concluded in his remarks.
