The Greek ambassador to Ankara was summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry to protest Greece’s behaviour on the issue created during Galatasaray’s arrival at Athens International Airport, according to the Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency.

Ankara seems to be completely escalating the case by making the matter seem like a “dangerous-diplomatic episode” as we recall that, the Turkish Foreign Minister has already contacted Nikos Dendias to express his discomfort a few hours ago.

According to Turkish sources, Turkey has stressed to the Greek ambassador that Greece’s behaviour is not tolerated and that it sees it as a hostile act towards Turkey.

Greece was also asked to take the necessary measures to prevent a repeat of similar treatment of Turkish sports clubs visiting the country in the future.

The Turkish team arrived yesterday in Eleftherios Venizelos, where it was found that their documents were not sufficient to enter the country and they would have to undergo rapid tests. The football team remained at the airport for two hours and then finally returned to Istanbul with the match with Olympiacos cancelled.
