Unemployed Turk: Greek former fighter jet pilots work for many Turkish airliners

In an article on Turkish civil aviation and the serious problems it faces, an unemployed Turkish pilot made shocking disclosures for Turkish society, saying that Greek former fighter jet pilots work for Turkish airlines.

These disclosures have created social chaos in Turkey with Turkish citizens criticizing Erdogan’s government on social media as at the same time the article states that more than 1,500 Turkish pilots have lost their jobs because large Turkish airliners are no longer able to fly.

A letter from an unemployed Turkish pilot to the Turkish newspaper Soczu states:

“I’ve been a fighter pilot for 23 years now and I like what I do. There are hundreds of my friends who are unemployed at home. “There are 850 foreign pilots working in Turkey.”

About 500 experienced pilots, including 300 Onur Airlines pilots and 200 from Atlas and Borajet Airlines pilots, are now unemployed as the companies went bankrupt. In addition, 1,100 pilots who have completed pilot training in the last three years are unemployed.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he wanted to reduce the number of foreign pilots in Turkey from 11% to 8% by 2020 and that he had conveyed this wish to all Turkish airlines. However, there was no significant change in the number of foreign pilots.

When I was a fighter pilot in the Turkish Air Force, I did it with honor for 23 years. As a citizen, I want you to pay attention to foreign pilots working in our country, especially those from Greece.

There are more than 150 Greek pilots working in Turkey and they also get permission to train and check on planes in the companies they work for.

More than a third of them were Greek former fighter jet pilots working for the Greek Air Force. In the past, many of them have been found many times with Turkish pilots in air battles and have targeted our country’s airspace in the Aegean and the Mediterranean. “There is also an incident with a pilot who had EOKA symbols tattooed,” said the Turkish unemployed pilot in an interview with Turkish Soczu.
